| Many kids get braces at age 8, and cars at 15 or 16. LASIK is routinely done on 18 year olds. |

As what I know its not routinely done on 18 years olds, because refraction has to be stable for at least one year...Often, the length growth is not completed yet with 18 years.

I think that it SHOULD not be routinely done on an 18-yr-old. At least not when the surgeon or referring OD has some sense of conscience. However, I am not sure how many of the fraud cases are not included in statistics.
IMHO, I do believe that a good candidate with low to moderate risk and minimum external risk can reach a good quality of life. Just that I'm a bit worried about surgeons who do not bother to educate their patients about individual risks despite a high qualification due to performing the required number of surgeries
I could imagine that some referring physicians and ODs speculate on the ignorance of their patients who need to pay it with their eyesight.
My advice would be therefore:
Be a responsible patient. Don't blindly trust your GP. Yes, I do know that certain emotions tend to make you fully trust your GP or OD. Take your time to research, inform, find a good website. MOst important is your own reflection before taking this important step
@BAdlasik
I think you have a medical assistant training. But trusting a doctor who is not trustworthy is something which can happen to anybody, medical professionals included. I have a lot of sympathy and empathy for you and all the others with a bad outcome due to doctor's negligence. _________________ I know nothing but would like to know everything |
