I have read the study with interest. However, is it right that the EPI-Lasik group had 79 eyes(Group A) and the Lasik group had only 61(Group B). Can you shed a light on this?

The PDF-fulltext is temporarily available here and answers your question

I do know Epilasik is a modification of PRK, is it right that the instrument they use is blunt(for lack of a better term)? Therefore I said it was "new".
yes its an almost blunt blade

Bonus: The PDF-fulltext investigating the Mit-C effect @ endothelial cells is temporarily available here

Hi Marianne,

for individual advice I need some parameteres:
- refraction (sphere & astigamatism in dpt)
- what is the size of your dark-adapted pupils
- how old are you

Hi Ron,

Thanks for your replies! Here's the info I dispose of :

- Left eye : -2.37 , astigmatism -0.75 on 105°
- Right eye : -3.00 , astigmatism -0.75 on 25°

- pupil-size: I don't remember exactly what the doctor said, but he measured it and recommended the Zyoptix treatment because of it (to reduce the risk of night-blindness and so on)

- I'm 28, going on 29 (next month) Wink

Thanks for your help,

Marianne

@Marianne

I think it is still your decision which procedure you prefer.

1.Your age provides 0 points. In fact Age under 40 has the smallest risk potential.

2. Your diopters is under 5, making a risk potential of 2.

3. Astigmatism < -1, risk potential 0. Left eye on 105. Risk 1 pt

4. Pupil size dark-adapted > 6(?) risk factor 1

With 4 pts, statistics have shown that you are in the low-risk group.

I think you know advantages and disadvantages of both. Make a wise decision about the methods. I'm not Ron but this is the info I can give you. Maybe you can ask the doctor how many patients he treated with Epilasik regain their tear function and corneal sensitivity quicker

How fast is your general wound healing, do you have more scarring on other parts of the body than usual? How good is your immune system?

In the meantime, (and after a lot of hesitating and stress) I have undergone EpiLasik on both eyes (Friday 6th of July). I think everything went fine, although I still can't see very sharp, neither short or long distances. 3 days after the operation, I had 10 out of 10 with both my eyes together (the doctor didn't test my eyes separately), so I don't worry too much.

Nevertheless, in the morning, my sight is almost perfect, but despite heavy use of eye-drops, it deteriorates during the day, and in the afternoon/evening, it's really difficult. It's as if I see the same things 2 times, with the outlines moved for about 1 millimetre.

The assistant that answered my phonecall told me that this is due to a lack of moist, and that I should folow the eye drop regime more rigidly... I hope this will solve it Shocked
