I had epilasik procedure on June 21st. Every seemed normal up to the removal of the contact lenses (days 7 after procedure). After lens removal the vision of both eyes got immediately misty. One day after (day 8 after procedure) the right eye started recovering the vision and i started seeing normally with it, while the left eye is still misty (today is day 10 after procedure).

Before the lens removal i could see fine with both eyes.

Has anybody of you experienced something like that before with epi-lasik?

Thank you in advance

Hi Valeria,

This happens very often with surface procedures. The lenses cover the surface and after this, it needs to be given a chance to heal.

During the first post-op days, surface procedures like PRK, Epi-Lasik and Lasek need a longer recovery of the epithelium(upper surface of the cornea) as well as vision recovery. Studies have shown that on the long run, tear function and corneal sensitivity is recuperated more quickly.

Go to Marianne's thread a few threads up, there you will see Ron's scientific studies. After 10 days we can't say much but please write again after a few weeks.

Many people stop writing after they become better, but you can help to encourage others when you write the results of your Epi-Lasik. Marianne is about to make a decision about Epi-Lasik and Lasik, so your experience may be an encouragement for her

Dear stareyes,

thank you for the fast reply.

I will write again after a few weeks, when hopefully
I will see better.

Hi,

I also had an epi-lasik surgery. Now it has been a little over a year and my eyesight is GREAT.
The surgery itself was uncomfortable (to say the least because the doctor had to correct my eye ball whit a knife. To make the edges smooth), but NO PAIN was involved.

The first three days of recovery were not painful but very boring and very uncomfortable. I could not fall asleep (or slept only few hours because my eyes were producing tears and when i opend my eyes all the tear liquid kind of poured on the sheets. Yes poured. There was really much tear liquid). Everytime i tried to open my eyes it was really painful. The doctor said it was so because the eye had started healing itself and the scars in the eye were very sensitive to any light (even in the dark). Things got better after a week or so. Then i could go outside with sunglasses. After 2-3 weeks everything was ok.

In the first 6-8 months after the surgery sometines when it was really cold/windy or really bright my eyes became wet and when i opend them it was really painful. It didn't last for long about 30-60 seconds. These things happend to me about 3-8 times a month.
Now (12 months later) my eyesight is ok and no pain what-so-ever has occured. I reccomend this kind of eye surgery to those who really want to see without glasses, because the first three days were for me horrible and in that period i really started to doubt if i had made the correct decision about going through with eyesurgery. Now i don't regret it.

Sorry for the message being so long and i hope it gave a little more insight about epi-lasik surgery.
If anyone has specific questions then ask. Since i am not often in this forum send me a mail at peeter.jakobson@gmail.com
